Giving

Because of your generosity:

God is worshipped 4 times each week in worship services

Approximatelty 200 people are cared for as participants in pastoral care

5 people made first time committments to Christ in the last six months

Each week about 130 people gather at our site to find freedom from addiction, personal development, family services or community.

12 people on average every week find care and support through our Op Shop

One City, One Heart is reshaping the narrative about the churches in our region, and bringing churches together to improve outcomes for the people who come to any of us looking for practical help.

Our own pastoral work continues to light up some dark places.  We are increasingly recognised as a place where mental ill health, a dark past or a challenging time right now  is no impediment to finding community and the presence of God.    We also have a growing number of cult and toxic religion survivors who are finding that there can be real Christian Community without control and intimidation.

The scripture asks us to pray that labourers will be "flung into the harvest".   22 people trained as pastoral carers recently, 5 new mentors were trained, and recently two new small groups have commenced with a goal of making disciples.

Giving - and "do you need me to help?"

First of all thank you.  Like so much else around here - the giving exceeds any standard of "normal".

That said - while we are growing steadily,  we have just had an expensive year.  The last 18 months have been a financial version of murpheys law in terms of things breaking or wearing out.     Every time we thought we were back on track to achieve the budget - something else went wrong.  The facility is 40 years old - so we expect maintainance - but the last period has been an exceptional opportunity to spend more than we expected to.

We don't recieve an offering during our services.   (We do pray blessing on the givers, and success in how we spend it.)  There is a box at the front door where you can make your offering, but the better way is to establish a regular transfer of your giving.   A weekly or monthly transfer ensures the money moves, and makes budgeting and deivery of ministry that much easier.

A note on tithing

Financial giving is one of the simplest and most commonly practiced spiritual disciplines.   Like all spiritual disciplines, it is meant to be a matter of joy.   If your giving creates problems and worry - it's time to reassess.

We don't believe there is any command or requirement for Christians to "tithe".  (And if we did - there were two annual tithes and one every three years in the Old Testament.  If you want to go hard core, its not 10%.  It's 23.3%.)

Now that we have that out of the way, many of us still use 10% of our income as a "rule of thumb" to work out how much to contribute.

That said - If giving 10% is simply going to hurt you and those you love - DON'T!    Just give what you can.

If you need a hand to get a regular transfer organised, send a message and we can provide support.
